Data Protection Officer

National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB)

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

Main Purpose: To ensure that the Council complies with all applicable data protection laws, such as the Data Protection Act and other relevant regulations. This role involves overseeing data protection processes, ensuring that personal data is processed lawfully, and serving as the main point of contact for regulatory authorities and data subjects.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure the Council complies with all applicable data protection laws and regulations.

Monitor data processing activities to ensure compliance with legal obligations.

Develop and maintain data protection policies, procedures, and standards.

Provide expert advice to the Council on data protection matters, including privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and legal requirements.

Conduct regular training sessions to increase staff awareness of data protection and privacy practices.

Guide departments on data privacy issues related to new projects, systems, or technologies.

Reduced data breaches and efficient and effective response/resolution time.

Efficient response to data subject access requests (DSARs).

Timeliness in reviewing and updating data protection policies to align with legal changes.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Information Security, Data Management, or a related field.

Relevant certifications would be an added advantage. E.g

Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E or equivalent).

Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).

A minimum of four (4) years’ post qualification experience.

Experience in data protection, privacy law, or compliance.

Familiarity with Data Protection Act and Regulations and other data protection regulations.

Knowledge of data protection principles and best practices.
